What exactly is this sandalwood Doss Man Soap uses in it's handcrafted soaps. In this post, we explain where this popular fragrance ingredient comes from, and what it smells like.
Sandalwood oil is mostly used as a base note in the modern day perfume and cosmetics industries. The oil is distinguished by its deep, woody aroma. The oil is generally steam distilled from the heartwood and roots of the tree genus Santalum album. Sandalwood is among the most expensive perfume ingredients and is most commonly found in designer fragrances

Where can you find Sandalwood in Nature?
(The Great Outdoors)
The main source of true sandalwood oil, Santalum album, is an over-harvested, slow-growing protected species in Asia. However, large-scale, sustainable cultivation has recently been established in Australia. One Australian company now producers an essential oil that meets FDA requirements for botanical medicines. The Santalum tree can be found in over 10 distinct regions of the world. But is primarily grown in India.
According to Healthline.com sandalwood is known to offer some health benefits. In the field of Ayurvedic medicine sandalwood is used in aromatherapy practices to promote mental and physical health.
Still, we are not doctors' or medical professionals here at Doss Man Soap. And we know that as of this blog post there is no substantial medical evidence to prove sandalwood oil may have many health benefits. More research is needed to confirm these statements for traditional medicine. In the meantime, the scent alone may be soothing and satisfying for you. That may be reason enough to give aromatherapy with a sandalwood Doss Man Soap a shot.
Lets Give it that Good Ol' Sniff Test
Sandalwood essential oil gives fragrances we use in Doss Man Soap their striking wood aroma. It has a sweet, fresh chypre odor, which is used heavily in the fragrance industry as base note in men's colognes. It is similar to bergamot, patchouli, and oakmoss.
